After competing in the aforementioned event, Goggins competed in the 2006 Badwater 135 Challenge where he triumphed as the fifth overall winner at the world-class event, a rare result for an ultramarathon novice.
In the same year, Goggins took part in the Ultraman World Championship Triathlon in Hawaii. However, prior to training for the championship, the well-known author had never ridden a bike. However, he did what he does best: he covered 261 miles in two days and finished second in the three-day, 320-mile race.
The veteran athlete then competed in 14 other ultra-endurance events, finishing in the top five in nine of the events.
