Note: There are a few variations of the 9-card golf game. Below are simple 4 card golf card game rules and 6 card golf card game rules.

Like outdoor golf, the card game known as golf aims to keep the score as low as possible. The game requires two decks and at least two players, but the more players, the more fun the game becomes.
- Choose a dealer and the dealer deals nine cards to each player. The cards are face down.
- The rest of the deck is placed in the center of the table. This is the draw pile.
- Then each player arranges their cards in three rows of three and chooses two of their cards to reveal.
- The dealer reveals the top card of the deck and places it to the side of the deck. This becomes the discard pile.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts.
Score for golf card game rules
Scoring in golf card games is quite simple. The object is to reduce the value of the cards you are holding, one card at a time. You can do this by exchanging a card from your hand for a card from the discard pile or a card from the deck on your turn.
The card values in the Golf card game are as follows:
- where = 1
- Number of cards = card face value
- queen and jack = 10
- Konig = 0
- wildcard = -5
Three identical cards in a vertical column reset the value of the cards, except for three wild cards, which would give the player a score of -15.
Golf Strategy card game.A great golf card game strategy is to work to clear a set of high value cards. The person on your right probably won't want to hold the highest card, which will make drawing easier.
How to Play a Card Game of Golf with Printable Rules
Playing golf with cards is easy. (Print the rules above)
- The player to the left of the dealer starts.
- That player chooses to draw a card from the deck or discard the discard pile.
- Without looking at the face-down cards, decide whether to keep the card or discard it.
- If the value of the card is higher than you want, just discard it and the game moves on to the next player.
- If you wish to use the chosen card, take any nine card and replace it with the new card. This card can replace 1 face-up or face-down card. Sometimes that means giving the next player a really good card.
- If you get 3 of the same type in a column, remove all 3 (see below).
- Once a card is discarded, play moves on to the next player.
Golf Strategy card game. A great strategy for playing golf cards is to pay attention to what the person to your left needs. Since they have the option to pick from the discard pile, you can choose to keep something just so they can't keep it.
The hand ends when a player has all of their cards face up.
- At that point, the game ends and the other players reveal the rest of their cards.
- The score is based on the table above.
- The player with the lowest total after nine hands is declared the winner.
One of the reasons we love this game is that you can play 1 hand or 9 hands. If you think you're going to play more than your hand, keep a scoreboard handy and write down the scores after each hand. The objective is always to have the lowest score.
How to play a 6 card golf deck
While preparing this post, I came across some variations for the game of golf. The rules of the 6-card game are very similar to those of the 9-card game. Using the same setup in six-card golf and scoring rules, expect:
- The dealer deals 6 cards face down to each player.
- If you get 2 of the same cards in a column, remove both.
This game moves faster than 9 card golf. I think if you have more than 4 players this is a better option.
How to Play a 4 Card Golf Deck
The 4 Card Golf Card Game has some differences from the other two versions. It's fun to change the game up every now and then without having to learn a new set of rules.
- The dealer deals 4 cards face down to each player.
- The rest of the deck is placed in the center of the table. This is the draw pile.
- Then each player arranges their cards into two rows of two.
- Each player looks ONCE at the two cards closest to him without revealing the other players.
- Play continues exactly as in 9-card golf, except that when a new card is added to a player's hole cards, it is kept face down.
- When a player is satisfied with his hand, he touches the table. Each player has one more turn.
- At this point,The game ends and all players reveal their cards.
- Scoring is the same as for 9-card golf.
This version of the Golf adds a storage component.
